More than 100 junior competitors gathered in Grant Park, Forres on the weekend of 27 October to contest the 2018 inter area relay competition. The crisp Autumnal sunshine at the start of the day soon gave way to driving sleet, but this didn’t prevent the juniors from racing hard for victory.

Hosted by MAROC and GRAMP. Classic orienteering in the grounds and forests of Balmoral Castle which lies some 10km west of Ballater on Royal Deeside, in the North East of Scotland.
Based on the results from a set of selection races the squad is selected in September by a Panel consisting of the Squad management team – SOA Performance Director (Chair), ScotJOS Lead Coach/Manager and ScotJOS Treasurer.
The Scottish Individual Championships 2018 were staged at Achagour & Dulsie (partially used during Highland 2015 Scottish 6 Days), a short distance from Nairn and Forres.

Events which are hosted in different countries each year - such as the World Orienteering Championships, which will took place in Edinburgh in 2024.

The Junior Home Internationals for 14,16 and 18-year olds were held in Mid-Wales over the weekend 7th and 8th October. Despite winning runs including M16 (Matthew Gooch), W14 (Rachel Brown) and W16 (Eilidh Campbell) and other excellent Scottish results England pulled ahead with 80 to Scotland’s 73 points in the Individual competition. Epic last leg runs from Emma Wilson (girls) and James Ackland (boys) brought Scottish teams home first in BOTH relays and gave us the relay trophy by 4 points (just not quite enough to overturn the 7 point deficit from the individual). Congratulations go to Terry O’Brien and his helpers for staging the inaugural event at Grandtully and celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the club. In 2016 the club was awarded a small contribution from the SOA Club Development Fund to kickstart the mapping of this new area. Terry had been eyeing up Grandtully (and measuring the size of boulders) for 20 years and it was great for the area to be used and support the different levels of technical difficulty. Read More…
Many thanks go to FVO for staging the Scottish Sprint Championships 2018 as part of their “Stepping into Spring” weekend. Most of the stepping was into mud or the occasional snow drift still remaining on the University of Stirling campus. The event consisted of two races, a Prologue and Final, but the total of both races counting towards final positions and results ( SOUL results counted separately). The 2022 Scottish Inter-Club Championship kicked off on Sunday, with a regional event at Cambus o’May, Ballater, which was organised by MAROC.
This year’s SICC has a very different format to previous years, with results from the entire season, over a variety of formats, being tallied to produce the champion club, rather than from a single championship event.
Host club MAROC got their campaign off to an excellent start, with their competitors winning five of the seven classes, and they notched a most impressive 22409 points for the event. Neighbours GRAMP were also prominent, with Pete Lawrence’s win on the Green course garnering the most points of any athlete on the day.
Moravian, Interlopers and EUOC were also amongst the points, while the remaining clubs will take their chance to open their account at the EUOC Big Weekend in two weeks time.

The weekend kicked off with a tricky sprint race on Friday around the medieval fortress in the old town. Megan Keith (INVOC), competing for the first time at this level, had an incredible run winning the W16 gold medal by a massive 34s over the next competitor! This is an amazing achievement and GB’s first ever EYOC female gold medal! The others put in great runs in fields of around 100 all easily making top 35 (see below for all results). Read More…
