2026 Summer of Sport
The 2026 Summer of Sport is a major programme led by sportscotland, designed to encourage children and young people across Scotland to participate in sport and physical activity. The £20 million investment from the Scottish Government, aimed at creating inclusive, inspiring and accessible sport.
In support of the initiative Scottish Orienteering is delivering taster sessions for the sport which will be linked to a follow on local event and each participant will be provided with club and SOA membership for the remainder of 2026. Each taster session will be delivered by a young coach aged between 18 and 25 supported by young leaders to allow both to gain experience in delivering training and develop the resources necessary to do so. Each of the areas used for the taster sessions will be accessible by public transport and can be undertaken as a family group or individually.
Sessions are being delivered in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Dundee, East Lothian, Helensburgh and Inverness in conjunction with the local clubs.
To support continued delivery within the Dundee area the Summer of Sport funding has also providing funds to support the mapping of 3 local and accessible areas around Dundee.
