Following our Community Conversation last year on Gender Equality in orienteering, we have been notified that IOF are seeking the voice of the orienteering community on equal winning times for men and women. An online survery is available (link below), we look forward to hearing the outcomes of the consultation in due course.

The Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival once again proved why it has become such a valued date in the school sports calendar. Over 300 pupils attended the event at Beecraigs, described as a ‘great day out’ by pupils and teachers alike. Falkirk High School attended for the first time this year, and their experience captured exactly what makes the festival special. Anne Smith, Faculty Head of Health and School Sports Co‑ordinator, shared how meaningful the day was for her pupils:

The March 2019 issue of SCORE orienteering magazine is now available for Scottish Orienteering members, and available to download for anyone interested in orienteering in Scotland.

This year, having sought feedback again at the end of 2024 , the Scottish Inter Club Championships will again be compiled from a club results of events from twelve events during the year. The events have been selected with a view to those which most clubs will try to attend as a means of encouraging club members to attend the large events and so the majority are either Championship events or national events other than one event in the north and one in the south.

Our great sport always needs people to help introduce others to a fantastic new activity or support those already participating to be the best they can.  These people are our coaches and we have a variety of courses to train you to join their ranks – it’s easier than you think.

This year’s SHI was held on home soil in bonny Perthshire and proved to be a successful weekend for team Scotland. We entered the weekend full of confidence after last years’ success and fielded a close to full strength team including four of this years’ WOC team.

Club coaching is a great way to introduce new participants to the sport we love or support existing members to be the best they can. Clubs are always seeking new coaches so if you have time to spare and expertise to share then come on a coaching course and find out how to get involved – it’s easier that you think!

The last weekend in October saw Badenoch and Strathspey Orienteering Club (BASOC) hosting the fifth and last Scottish Orienteering League event of the 2024 season at Alvie near Aviemore. The offering of a area not used recently in the Speyside area meant that over 320 competitors had the opportunity to experience a stunning location in the delightful autumnal colours.

An impressive 110 Junior orienteers from all over Scotland converged on Kingussie on Sunday 9^th June for the Jamie Stevenson competition – the annual junior inter-club competition, where juniors from all Scottish clubs battle it out for their club to be crowned champions.
