Following advice from the Scottish and UK Governments – and working closely with British Orienteering – orienteering events across Scotland will continue this weekend, 14-15 March.

In light of the constantly changing coronavirus situation, Scottish Orienteering has made the difficult decision to postpone the Edinburgh-O Midday Map Runs which were scheduled to be held across six weeks, starting on Wednesday 18 March.

This is a call to action as we announce that the AGM (and Junior AGM) date has moved to 14th June to follow on from the TAY SOUL in North Muirton, Perth. We welcome any proposals from clubs as well as nominations/applications for our vacant Director posts on the SOA Board. Most importantly we want all members to be involved.

Scottish Orienteering is looking for a volunteer to lead the Scottish Elite Development Squad (SEDS).

A series of lunchtime events is being launched this spring to introduce new people to the sport of orienteering ahead of Edinburgh hosting the World Orienteering Championships in 2022.

The SOA club accreditation scheme was first launched 18 months ago at Bronze and Silver level and we are pleased now to be able to launch the Gold scheme, alongside these awards.

The annual SSOF is planned to be held at Scone Palace, Perth on Thu June 4th 2020 and we are now looking for some offers of support to help make the day a big success.

It’s not only the hares that go mad in March – orienteers can look forward to a double-header weekend over the 14th and 15th March with the Scottish Middle Distance Championships at Gleneagles and the CompassSport Cup & Trophy at Errochty.

The Moray Coast proved to be the ideal location to host the 2020 Scottish Night Championships and the first Compass Point SOL event of the year. While the rest of the country had battened down the hatches, the weather was fairly mild to allow for successful racing at both Findhorn and Darnaway

The recent very windy weather has led to many Scottish clubs addressing the issue of should an event or activity go ahead or are the risks of trees falling too high. If you’re an organiser or a coach looking to put on an event, you may find a new guidance document useful.
