In early March 2020, ScotJOS held a training camp based at Dinnet in Deeside – and as we drove away little did we know that that would be our last camp for some time. However, finally 18 months later we returned to Dinnet for our 1st camp post-Covid.
World Orienteering Week is set to take place from 8th-14th Sep 2021 We would love to see lots of schools, clubs and other groups across Scotland participating in this year’s event and celebrating a return to the sport.
Over 100 youngsters from all across Scotland came together at Tentsmuir last Sunday for the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup league, with the competition bolstered further by visiting youngsters from the JROS “Not Stockholm” training camp as well as the Yorkshire and Humberside junior squad.
We would like everyone to join us in wishing Colin Matheson the happiest of retirements as we mark his last day ‘in office’. A familiar face to many having delivered some of the highest profile events in the sport and supported many clubs with access and data during his tenure within the SOA and with Scottish 6 Days. Colin has been a valued member of the team for over a decade and he leaves the organisation on a high after successfully delivering Scottish 6 Days in Lochaber under challenging conditions bringing his experience to the fore with last minute changes to the event format. We hope to have a formal presentation to Colin when restrictions allow, but today he was given a small token of appreciation before he headed to the golf course!
Thank you for all you have contributed to Scottish Orienteering and Scottish 6 Days, Colin! We truly hope you enjoy your time perfecting your putting, keep sharing your photos and of course we look forward to seeing you on the start line of plenty more orienteering events!
On reflection of the guidance provided to us by sportscotland for ‘beyond level 0’ which came into affect on 16th August and on balance of the current national figures for Covid in Scotland we have taken the decision at this time to not amend our existing guidance. However there have been some changes to the events risk assessment which is published below. We will be running a covid officer question and answer session on 9th September for clubs to air their views and ask any questions relating to guidance or risk assessments currently in place or provide their input into the next steps.
Selections will be made in early September for the Scottish teams to compete at the upcoming Junior Inter-Regional Champs (25-26 Sep 2021) and Junior Home Internationals (9-10 Oct 2021), as well as the 2021-22 Scottish Junior squad.
