Janice Nesbit, our Scottish Veteran Team Manager, has after many years decided that it is time to step back from the role of Scottish Veteran Team Manager after the 2026 Veteran Home Internationals. We are very grateful for her work over the years representing Scottish Orienteering.
Janice has kindly agreed to mentor and pass over her vast knowledge and experience in the run up to this year’s event taking place in Derbyshire on 19th/20th September. We are therefore looking for a someone to work with Janice over the next few months and then take over after the 2026 VHIs as Scottish Veteran Team Manager.
Every year in the autumn the Veteran Home Internationals (VHIs) are held and sees senior athletes from M/W40 through to M/W70 come together to compete. Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales come together with 24 athletes each and the event circulates around the countries
The selection opportunities for 2024 have been agreed by the selectors. With the Senior Home Internationals take place in Scotland this year on 7/8th September in the Stirling area and Veteran Home Internationals take place in Ireland on 5th/6th October in Ireland.
Scottish Orienteering, and all the members of the Senior Home International and Veteran Home International teams would like to say a big thank you to Ben Hartmann, and Janice Nisbet (through Fergusson Law) for sponsoring the team kit for the 2023 events. Their contributions meant that all members of both teams were provided with Scotland orienteering tops free of charge. The intention is that future team members will also get given a shirt as recognition for representing Scotland.
If you or your organisation is interested in sponsoring the Scottish team in future (kit or activities) then please get in touch.
The Scottish Veteran Home International Team are travelling this weekend (30th/31st September) to the Forest of Dean to test their mettle against the other home nations in the 2023 Veteran Home Internationals (VHIs).

For more information on the events being used for selections, courses which should be run and who to contact if there are extenuating circumstances or you are unable to travel to events can be found in the 2023 VHI Selection Policy
It was close but not close enough. Well done to England retaining the overall trophy for the Veteran Home Internationals .

After the individual we were 6 points down but the depth of the English team showed through in the relays. Nonetheless we managed first place on the women Men women combination with a cracking final leg from Kirsten Strain and we took second place on the men women men combination.
The VHI races this year will take place in Wales on the weekend of 1st and 2nd of October. We are excited to announce those selected to represent Scotland at the event. Thank you to the team selectors, congratulations to those selected and good luck in October!
