Planners’ Discussion 27th October 2025

For this coming winter we have twisted the arms of some experienced planners to share their knowledge and answer your questions to enable you to broaden your knowledge of the planning process.

These discussions are open to all including juniors. The whole series is as follows but each one has a separate sign up form:

Urban Planning for safety – 27th October
Eavesdroppping on the planners thought process – 4th December
Experiences of a rookie S6Ds planner – 23rd February

In this discussion hosted by Graeme Ackland and Lindsay Knox topics covered will be:

Planning for the under 16s and older competitor.
How to deal with annoyed neighbours/members of the public.
Examples of good and bad practices.
Q&A.

The discussions will be held on Zoom and run from 7:30pm to 9pm;

Planners Workshops – Winter series 2022/23

After the success of the last series of online planners’ workshops, we are happy to announce that these will be repeated albeit in a slightly different format. Junior planners workshops will be repeated in the Spring.

This time we are running a linked series of workshops for those who are starting out on their planning career. It is expected that learners will attend all the workshops and there will be a planning exercise to complete between each workshop which you will get a chance to reflect on with your trainer and other learners. You will require access to either Condes or Purple Pen on a computer (tablets / phones are unsuitable for this).

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Nikki Howard to the SOA staff team as Events & Operations Manager. Nikki brings with her extensive experience in organising events for her club Moravian and also from being assistant day organiser on day 3 (Arisaig) of Scottish 6 Days last year. She will be taking on much of the work previously done by Colin Matheson who retired in 2021, including assisting clubs with access for events and working to evolve our partnerships with Forestry & Land Scotland and other organsations. As part of the operations component of the role, Nikki will work to support the ongoing development of our network of event planners, controllers and will work with clubs to coordinate the event calendar in future years.
