Following the success of Deeside 2025 this summer, Graham McIntyre of Interlopers was appointed as the Perthshire 2027 Scottish 6 Day Co-ordinator. Following the decision by the Scottish Orienteering 6 Day Event Company to ask the areas to take the lead in the organisation of the event, East Area are taking the lead on the central organisation for Perthshire 2027. Graham’s position is a volunteer role and we are very grateful for him volunteering to fulfil this role. Graham has been involved in the sport for many years both as an elite athlete and working to support performance athletes at British Orienteering before working outwith the sport but he continues to participate both as an athlete and as a very experienced event official.
The SOA is seeking candidates to fill the roles of JK 2026 Co-ordinator for the JK 2026 and the Assistant Coordinator for the Scottish 6 Day Event in 2027.
JK 2026 Co-ordinator
The JK 2026 is being held in Perthshire in 3rd to 6th April 2026 with the Sprint in Perth and the other days based around Rannoch. There is an Interim JK 2026 Co-ordinator in place at present and we are looking for someone to take over this role and deliver the event.
The next Scottish Orienteering 6 Day Event is being held in the Perthshire area in 2027 and we are looking for someone to act as the assistant coordinator for the event.
Both of these roles are paid roles and will be key to the successful delivery of the events through the coordination of a team of volunteers and paid for services as appropriate. For the right candidate there is potential for the roles to be combined.
The 6-Day Company is pleased to announce that a further payment to Scottish clubs will be made from the surplus generated by Moray 2023 as a thank you for supporting this event. After the success of Moray, it was announced that an interim payment of £5,000 would be made pending the financial outcome of WOC 2024. The financial strength of the 6-Day Company is important as it helps to guarantee the future of the event and it was felt that a payment of £10,000 prior to the conclusion of WOC could result in the Company reserves falling below our stated policy.

The Scottish 6 Days is coming to Deeside in 2025..Make sure that you have the dates of the Scottish 6 Days in 2025 in your diary – 27th July to 1st August 2025.
This is a great opportunity to be involved in the planning, controlling or organising the event and build on your experience. There have been difficulties in securing access due to landowner and wildlife restrictions. Now that access has been secured it is vital that we get people into key roles as soon as possible.
The Scottish 6 Days is an incredibly important event in terms of funding and reputation for Scottish Orienteering. This event we have employed an Event Co-ordinator, Nic Crossley, who has an events background but we really need the support of the orienteering community to support her as she delivers the event. There are three types of roles that we need to fill as soon as possible – club day officials, controllers and position on the central organising team . The current allocation of days, areas and clubs is proposed as follows
Clubs have been asked to put forward names of those who would be interested in being involved. You may have been asked already but if you wish to be involved in a planning or organising or assistant controller role, please make sure that you have told your club of your interest as soon as possible. The assistant controller is normally recruited by one of the organising clubs for the day.

As in some previous years the Central Organising Team will be made up of orienteers from across Scotland. There are a number of roles which remain to be filled including There is also a need for volunteers to act as Day Co-ordinator, Treasurer, Trader Co-ordinator, Event Centre Manager, Merchandising, Information, String course Co-ordinator, Equipment Co-ordinator and Social Co-ordinator. The next Scottish Orienteering 6-Day event is due to be held in the Deeside area in 2025. The Scottish Orienteering 6-Day Event Co Ltd (6-Day Company) is seeking a Coordinator for this event.
The Coordinator will play a key role in the successful delivery of the event, through the coordination of a team of volunteers and paid-for services as appropriate.
The management and running of the event is delegated by the 6-Day Company to a Central Organising Team (COT). The COT is led by the Coordinator, and is supported by the Events & Operations Manager of the Scottish Orienteering Association who is appointed as Assistant Coordinator. A Director of the 6-Day Company will also sit on the COT to give advice where necessary. The Coordinator will be responsible for appointing members of the COT which can either be from one club or drawn from several clubs of the SOA, as considered appropriate.
Deeside 2025 will be the 25th staging of the Scottish 6 Days, and there is a wealth of experience within the Scottish Orienteering community to help deliver this biennial event.
The Coordinator will be appointed by the Board of Directors of the Scottish Orienteering 6-Day Event Co Ltd.
A mapping fund was set up following the 6-Day event in 2013 with the aim being to assist clubs with mapping expenses, particularly those clubs who do not benefit from new or updated maps prepared for a 6-Day event. There is currently just under £2,000 left in the mapping fund and the SOA would like to invite clubs, in particular those who would satisfy the criterion noted above, to put forward mapping proposals for consideration.
Applications should be sent to Nikki Howard at the SOA (nikki@scottish-orienteering.org) with full details including the area(s) to be mapped, the estimated cost and the proposed timescale.
As of 29th July 2022 the following areas in Moray will be embargoed for the Scottish 6 Days Moray 2023 – Culbin Forest, Lossie Forest, Roseisle Forest and Darnaway North.
Competitors shall declare themselves non-competitive if their acquaintance with the terrain would give them substantial advantage over other competitors. Nothing that occurred more than 12 months before the date of the event shall be taken into account.
