Event Safety Workshop – SW Scotland – late May 2026

This in-person Event Safety and Welfare (ESW) workshop is aimed at all who orienteer – whether you are a coach, a competitor, an event official (planner or organiser) or helper. It is a suitable refresher for those who have attended the course before – there are some new materials!
Delivered in person in South West Scotland in late May, this 2.5 hour workshop will cover event safety and is a prerequisite for all event officials with SOA/BOF events and licenced coaches. We will firm up on a date/venue once we know how many people wish to attend and their availability.
  • This workshop is free to Scottish members.
Please complete the  registration form asap – the sooner we know who needs to do it and their availability, the easier it is for us to schedule.

Stirling University PE Students Get a Taste of Orienteering

Scottish Orienteering recently delivered a practical orienteering taster session for secondary PE teaching students at the University of Stirling, giving future teachers the chance to experience how orienteering can be introduced simply and effectively in schools. We had some extra fun as it was the last day before the holidays so everyone arrived in festive attire!

A total of 24 students took part in the two-hour session, which was led by Louise Adams (SOA Lead Development Officer), with support from STUOC President Laura Brown. The session focused on easy-to-learn, easy-to-set-up activities that are well suited to school environments and adaptable for different ages and abilities.

Controllers/ Planners CPD Event planned for JHI / SOL6 / Middle Distance weekend – 8th October 2022

Following on from the updating of the list of SOA active controllers – which can be found at Club Toolkit – SOA list of qualified event controllers – the operations team at SOA have organised an event for controllers and planners.

The aim of the event is for controllers or planners to have an opportunity to come together and discuss controller’s conundrums.  The focus will be on 2 or 3 real incidents which have taken place in the last year and discuss what actions could have been taken to avoid the incident occurring.  The opportunity will be given to the controllers/ planners to raise other issues.

The lounge at Boat of Garten Community Hall has been booked for Saturday 8th October between 4pm and 6pm.  The event is timed to allow everyone to compete at the Interlopers Middle Distance event at Loch Vaa before the event and there will be refreshments and cake!  We look forward to seeing you there.
