Scottish Nights provide Valentine’s Day connections

As it turned out out MAR Orienteering Club (MAROC) choose a suitable location to host the Scottish Nights Championships! The stone circles on the Muir of Dinnet map were ancient hut circles close to the monument on Culblean Hill which was the site of the Battle of Culblean which took place during the Second War of Independence. A bit of research by curious members discovered that the coat of arms of one of the battle leaders, Sir William Douglas was a large red heart – suitably appropriate for those members who decided to take their other half on a Valentine’s day adventure!

As we have come to expect MAROC put on a great event with another fantastic night of orienteering and it was a great success despite the logistics of bussing everyone from Ballater to Muir of Dinnet. Well done to all those who took part, well done to those who took home a trophy or medal and a huge thank you to Dinnet Estate and Nature Scot for allowing the event to take place. Thank you to MAROC and their fabulous volunteers but in particular to Caz Dudley and Pat Graham for their organising skills, planners Jon Musgrave and Jordan Matthews and controller Paul Duley from GRAMP.
