Juniors see Jamie Stevenson success at Hill of Alyth

Sunday 15th June saw Scottish juniors for over 10 clubs travel the Hill of Alyth to compete for the Jamie Stevenson Trophy. An event aimed at encouraging participation from juniors of all Scottish Clubs.

It was a day of friendly rivalry with the sun shining after a few days of dreich weather. Face paint was applied and club tshirts were worn proudly.

To start the juniors in time honoured tradition paraded their flags around before a mass warm up which this year saw them all opening the gates, feeding the chickens and giraffes before kicking the badgers out of the farmyard?!?

Then out onto the hill they all went! It is a lovely event with a supportive atmosphere and from the starts on the hill cheers could be heard for every finisher from every club. There were podiums for every age class.

In the end Forth Valley Orienteer Juniors lifted the Jamie Stevenson Trophy just pipping Inverness Orienteering Club Juniors to the trophy. As ever there was a prize for all clubs entered and one for club whose juniors were the most supportive.

All funds from the day go to support the Scottish Juniors Orienteering Squad whose parents help to make the day possible. Thanks to everyone who helped make the event possible – especially Judy Bell, the ScotJOS Manager for organising, Alistair Duguid (TAY) for planning and arranging all the permission and hanging all the controls in the rain and to Grant Carstairs (TAY) for controlling.
