Junior Feedback June 2025

Yearly, at the Interareas weekend SOA gets the opportunity to ask most of the juniors in Scotland for feedback on how we can improve orienteering for juniors. Again, last year at Inverness Youth Hostel we asked juniors for feedback. Responses to this feedback session included: more socials, more area coaching and a junior hangout area at events.

Since then SOA have been trying to implement the junior feedback. To see how we are getting on we asked juniors via online feedback. We had a fairly even distribution of juniors across the East, West and North areas responding with most responders being M/W14 upwards. 

Half the juniors who responded had attended the game of capture the flag at the Scottish Champs. 80% of those would like a similar social in the future, although some of the juniors would rather it was a different game. The majority found out about the social through their parents or club and 25% found out through SOA social media. 

25% of responses attended regional training regularly and saw it as an opportunity to ‘learn different skills’ and ‘good opportunity to improve’. 

Most of the Juniors didn’t use or didn’t know about the junior tent at large events. Juniors responded saying they are more likely to use it if they knew it was there. The polls of the current junior tent are broken. We’ll consult juniors further to find out if these are worth fixing.
