Highlands bask in sunshine for the Scottish Middle Championships

This weekend saw a double header in the Highlands with Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) hosting the Scottish Middle Distance Championships at Dallaschyle just outside Cawdor and Moravian Orienteering Club hosting the first Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) event of the season in the east of Culbin Forest.

Focussing in on the Scottish Middle Championship, Dallaschyle was first used in the World Championships in 1999, and the venue where Yvette Hague won Britain’s first WOC gold medal! With an updated map, Dallaschyle has varying runnability and a wealth of contour and rock detail, as well as a network of tracks and rides. Although parts of the forest have been felled and replanted in recent years, the courses bypass these, and plenty of mature forest remains.

With over 350 competitors travelling north for the weekend all the hardwork of the planner David Summers and organiser Marsela McLeod (both from INVOC) and the controller David Esson (GRAMP) and the other volunteers was appreciated by all those who enjoyed the sun.

Congratulations to all of those who made the podiums and hopefully everyone enjoyed running in some lovely forest with the sun shining on their backs.
