Cumbernauld sprints through another great Championship weekend

Following on from the successful WEST Area Scottish Championships weekend, St Andrew’s Orienteering Club of Glasgow (STAG) treated us all to the combination of the Scottish Sprint Championship and the 3rd event of 2026 Scottish Orienteering Urban League calendar based in the classic urban challenge of Cumbernauld.

The Scottish Sprint Championships was a combination of two races held in different areas of Cumbernauld – Condorrat and Westfield Estate – with a base at St Maurice’s High School on the Saturday 30th May. The results of the two similar distance races were added together to produce a final time. This allows everyone time to recover between the two short and snappy races around the intricate street scape with curved garage buildings to test your mental acuity!

Well done to all those who took part and a big thank you to the planners Arnis Saltums and Terry O’Brien BEM and organiser Rudi Paul (all from STAG) and the controller for the event Phil Smith (AYROC) and everyone else who volunteered to make the event happen. Podium photos will follow shortly.

The 3rd SOUL event of 2026 was held the next day in yet another part of Cumbernauld to the north east of the Scottish Sprint Championships. Another intricate street scape with plenty of stairs and small humpback bridges to sap both your tired legs and mental acuity!
