Calling All Young Orienteers – Share Your Best Shots!

Scottish Orienteering is excited to launch a brand-new Junior Photo Competition – and we want you to be part of it! This is your chance to showcase the spirit of orienteering through your own lens – whether it’s about fun, adventure, beautiful places – or something else! Read on for what we’re looking for and how to enter – the closing date is 30 November.

The aim of the competition is to create a set of inspiring images that capture the energy and excitement of our sport, which will be used by SOA in its work to promote orienteering to new audiences across Scotland. We want to see orienteering through your eyes – whether it’s a photo that evokes the beautiful terrain orienteering often takes place in, a creative shot of a map in hand, a snapshot of orienteers
dashing through the forest, or an image that captures the excitement of rising to the mental and physical challenge of a race, or something else entirely. Just make sure it clearly says ‘orienteering’ to someone looking at it (for example, with a kite or map visible).

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all junior members (under 21) of Scottish Orienteering. You don’t need fancy equipment – photos taken on smartphones are absolutely fine.

A few rules

• Photos must have been taken by the junior entering the competition.
• Photos should not show clearly identifiable places – we’re looking for ones that can be used for a range of different purposes
• Photos should not show clearly-identifiable people – so avoid full views of faces, and any people featured in the image should not wear anything that clearly identifies them as being with a particular club
• Please ensure you have permission from anyone in your photo(s) who could potentially be identifiable before submitting.
• By entering, you grant Scottish Orienteering the right to use your images in its work to promote and celebrate orienteering (with credit given).

How to enter?

• Choose up to six of your best photos that you think showcase something about what orienteering can offer.
• Email high-resolution image files (original size) to info@scottish-orienteering.org with the subject line Junior Photo Competition 2025.
• Please include your name, age, club, and a short title description of where and when each photo was taken.

Deadline

Entries close on 30 November 2025.

Prizes and Recognition

The competition will be judged by a panel of SOA Board members and winners will
be announced in December.

• Winning photos will be showcased on the Scottish Orienteering website, social media, and future promotional materials.
• The top three photographers will each receive an SOA Buff and recognition of their entry.
• All shortlisted entrants will be credited whenever their image is used by SOA.

This is a fantastic opportunity to show your creativity, highlight what makes orienteering so special, and inspire others to give our sport a try. So grab your camera or phone and get snapping!
