A sprint of two parts for the 2024 Scottish Sprint Championships

This weekend the Scottish Sprint Championships were hosted by Tayside Orienteers in MacRosty Park in Crieff. In a fun variation on the normal sprint style saw best use of the parkland and surrounding woods or streets with competitors taking part in two ultrasprints which were then combined to calculate the winning times.

It was perhaps not quite what James MacRosty thought the park would be used for when he donated part of it to the people of Crieff in 1908 but the format seemed to make people smile and even the weather approved!

There were some great results and despite there being a GB selection race held the same weekend there were plenty of people eager to get their hands on a medal. The event was also the eighth event of the 2024 Scottish Inter-Club Championships where the current results can be found here. After the eighth event we see Forth Valley Orienteers still leading the large club, senior and junior sections, from Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club (ESOC) in the adults section and Moravian Orienteering Club in the junior section. In the small clubs St Andrews Orienteering Club, Glasgow (STAG) are leading in the adult club section and our hosts this weekend Tayside Orienteers (TAY) are leading in the junior section. There are four events to go and as usual it is still all to play for!

Well done to everyone who took part and many thanks to all those from Tayside Orienteers who helped make the event happen. Special thanks are due to Clive Masson for planning, Maire Covery and Alan Downie for organising and Colin Matheson of Forth Valley Orienteers for controlling the event.
