The one-day course is for young people aged 14-17 who want to assist qualified coaches or teachers in providing orienteering within a school, youth organisation or club environment.

The purpose of the training is to give you the skills and awareness to assist a suitably qualified adult working in a safe, enclosed area such as a school, outdoor centre, park or small wood.

The course is highly practical, there is no assessment and you will receive a set of printable resources which you can adapt and use as often as you wish.

As this is the first offering of the course, you will also receive a special T-shirt along with your certificate on completion of the course.

The course will start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00, lunch will be provided, and there will be no charge for attendance or for any of the items you receive during the course.

Places are strictly limited so please book online to avoid disappointment.

Closing date for bookings is 16 September 2018.

The event centre will be Morrison’s Academy in Crieff with Comrie Croft offering special campsite facilities (bookable through this link).  Strathearn 2019 promises to be another great event – we will be staging two Middle Distance competitions (including the final day) and there are many different terrain types to enjoy from the oak woodlands of Loch Earn to the open hillsides at Culteuchar and of course the birthplace of Scottish Orienteering at Craig a Barns. To participate, every time you go orienteering, including training, coaching, planning, controlling, mapping or competing, please complete the survey. There is an Orienteering option in the activities menu – note that you can also record other outdoor activities you take part in such as hill walking and mountain biking.

The weekend kicked off with a tricky sprint race on Friday around the medieval fortress in the old town. Megan Keith (INVOC), competing for the first time at this level, had an incredible run winning the W16 gold medal by a massive 34s over the next competitor! This is an amazing achievement and GB’s first ever EYOC female gold medal! The others put in great runs in fields of around 100 all easily making top 35 (see below for all results). Read More…

Last Saturday not only marked our AGM but was also our President Roger Scrutton’s last day ‘in office’. With the launch of Volunteers’ Week from 1st to 7th June, we thought it was a fitting time to recognise Roger’s contribution to orienteering having served his maximum 9-year tenure on the SOA Board of Directors as a volunteer. The Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) staged the British Orienteering Championships 2018 over the weekend Saturday 19th May to Sunday 20th May in Royal Deeside. The Long Distance Championships were held over the Balmoral Estate with the British Relay Championships at nearby Torphantrick (Cambus o’May).

The rescheduled British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Orienteering Championships were held over 28-29th April in Oxford. Originally scheduled for the first weekend in March, the snow put a stop to students from Edinburgh, Heriot Watt, Edinburgh Napier, Glasgow, Strathclyde and Aberdeen competing.
