Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) in conjunction with Masterplan Orienteering put on the Inverness Eagle Weekend which combined a Scottish Orienteering Urban League (SOUL) event, a World Ranking Middle distance event and a Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) into one weekend of glorious orienteering with a ceilidh as the cherry on top!

The 2026 AGM sees Tim O’Donoghue standing down as Safety Director having served as Director for 6 years. Neil Polwart of Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO) has indicated that he would be willing to stand for the position of Director on the SOA Board and as such a vote will be held as part of the AGM. The Proxy Vote form for the AGM has been updated to reflect this (2026 AGM Proxy Form) and the AGM Booklet updated as at today’s date (10th September 2026) with Neil Polwart’s support information detailed below.

Last weekend saw St Andrews Orienteering Club of Glasgow (STAG) hold their 1000th event in Tollcross Park, Glasgow in their over 40 year history.

The 2026 Annual General Meeting of the SOA will take place online on 14th September at 7pm. The link for the meeting and all information in respect of the AGM can be found in the AGM Booklet below together with the link to the finalised 2025 SOA Accounts.

Last weekend East Area training took place at Riccarton, Edinburgh. Planned by Lorna Eades (INT) and Ian Maxwell (RR), it was the first urban focused East Area session. Over 40 people attended with training groups from TD1-5 including juniors and adults groups. 

Got experiences you think are worth sharing, want to meet members from other clubs or find out what others think about the hot topics in a format where chat is not restricted by start times, download queues or volunteering requirements. With a free lunch on offer and a guarantee of home made cake the Club Networking days really are a chance for our members to come have lunch and chat about all things orienteering.

A sport as diverse and inclusive as ours relies entirely on the passion and dedication of its members. As we approach the AGM on 14th September, we are actively seeking volunteers to step forward as new Directors on the SOA Board.

We are looking to recruit a Squad Manager for the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad (ScotJOS). The person will work alongside Roger Goddard, and will replace Judy Bell, who has been a stalwart of the ScotJOS coaching team for many years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Judy for all her hard work and acknowledge the enormous contribution she has made to ScotJOS and the development of our Scottish Juniors.

After a summer break we resume our 2026 Community Conversations series. In September, Monday 7th September 7.30pm, we are focussing on Permanent Orienteering Courses and the learnings from clubs which could ensure they have an impact.
