Coaching Courses
Club coaching is a great way to introduce new participants to the sport we love or support existing members to be the best they can. Clubs are always seeking new coaches so if you have time to spare and expertise to share then come on a coaching course and find out how to get involved – it’s easier that you think!

The ‘dipping your toe in the water’ courses are Coaching Foundation (CF) or Young Coach Assistant (YCA) for juniors. These fun, unassessed courses combine practical coaching backed up by basic theory in an interactive course. CF is run over 3 online sessions with an in-club practical so no need to travel. These are run 3 times a year. YCA is an active, in person day doing practical exercises and relating those to learners’ own experiences. We run one in the North and one in the Central Belt every year. These qualify you to assist a coach and no planning is required.

The first licenced qualification is Club Coach, the focus of which is running single sessions. This is also delivered mainly online with one day in person which includes the practical assessment.
For those who wish to take their coaching further and learn the skills to supervise other coaches and oversee a whole club or squad training plan there is our new Lead Coach course which supersedes the old Level 2.

Details of all these courses with their registration forms can be found on the SOA Training Calendar and the dates are also on the Events Calendar. If you don’t see a course with dates to suit, you need advice or have some feedback for us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Suzanne
