Compass Sport Cup Final 2025
The Compass Sport Cup is a British Clubs Orienteering Championships. The Competition consists of an initial round in Spring and a Final round in the autumn. This year the initial round for the Scottish Clubs took place at Kinoull Hill Perth, hosted by Tayside Orienteers and the final was at South Gare, Redcar in the North East of England. Clubs are categorised into small (Trophy – 13 scorers) and large (Cup – 25 scorers) clubs. Forth Valley Orienteers are the only large club in Scotland. FVO, INT, ESOC, INVOC and MAROC had previously qualified at Kinoull and travelled down for the final.
The five Scottish clubs were joined by orienteering clubs from across the UK competing for the compass sport cup or trophy. FVO last won the cup in 2019 and have been second on the podium since. INT have just missed out on winning the compass sport trophy the last couple of years. Will they manage to claim it back this year?
South Gare is an area of reclaimed land with an industrial past. Erosion gullies and rocky outcrops gave clues to the areas industrial past. Many competitors commented it felt like running on the moon! The sand dunes made the area very technical. Although the courses were challenging, the hardest part of the day was the 300m run in on soft sand! Most of us were bent over double afterwards!

As expected it was a close call for FVO narrowly missing out on the Compass Sport Cup. INT managed to secure the victory in the trophy category. ESOC came in third place in the trophy category. Their highest ever position at the compass sport cup! INVOC were not far behind ESOC in fourth place.
There were some great individual performances from Scottish Athletes:
Alongside prizes for first individual there were also prizes for fastest run in time. At the Compass Sport the fastest male and female to the finish control wins the famous Golden Boot Trophy! This year the Golden Boot was claimed by Cora Comisso of INVOC. Cora is only W14 and has only recently started orienteering so this is a huge achievement!
Next years Compass Sport Heat for Scottish Clubs is at Aberfoyle hosted by FVO. The Compass Sport Cup is a great way to build club spirit and getting everyone involved!
