SUMMARY:ESW & Organiser workshops  2nd Nov 2024
DESCRIPTION:This in-person Event Safety and Welfare (ESW) workshop is aimed at all who orienteer – whether you are a competitor\, an event official (planner or organiser) or helper. It is a suitable refresher for those who have attended the course before – there are some new materials!\nThe Event Organiser workshop is to let you find out a bit more about what is involved with organising a local (Level D) or regional (Level C) event. \nThe Event Safety and Welfare workshop will start at 10am and finish by 1pm. The Event Organiser workshop will run from 1pm to 4pm. You can attend both or either workshop although you should note that you need to attend an ESW before you can organise an event.\n\nVenue – Grantown-on-Spey.  This will depend on who signs up.  We may move it to Kincraig if it would be more convenient for the majority. SUMMARY:SCCO L5: Club Coach (L5/24_2) - Blended Learning
DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Coaching Certificate in Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA (SCQF L5)\, this course blends theory and practical providing the knowledge and skills to run single sessions within a framework set up by a more experienced coach. \nINTENDED FOR: \nFoundation level coaches or Young Leaders interested in furthering their experience to gain a licenced coaching qualification. \nDURATION \nDelivered mainly online\, this course comprises four online\, tutor led\, interactive sessions of 1.5 hrs each and 1 full day in person practical which includes the assessment. The assessment may be split over 2 days in the winter due to lack of daylight. \nThe first online session will be w/b 21st October . All pre-course work will need to be completed prior to this date. \nThe pre-course tasks will be sent out in early October giving learners ample time to complete them. \nASSESSMENT: \nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching sessions by a qualified assessor.  The assessment dates are 16th/17th November \nCOST: \n£170 per person\, £200 non-members.   sportscotland funding is now administered through SOA and may cover part of your course fee depending on your circumstances. Please consult your club treasurer if you are expecting your club to pay your fee. \nCOURSE OUTLINE: \nThe focus of the Level 5: Club Coach\, is the single session usually progressing a skill within the session. Building on the basic knowledge covered in Coaching Foundation\, the course includes the theory of what and how to coach\, practical exercise planning and delivery including risk management and developing yourself as a coach. \nPRE-REQUISITES: \n\nAttendance at Coaching Foundation or Young Coach Assistant course\nAged 17 or over\nEvidence of competence at orienteering at TD4 or above\nCurrent member of British Orienteering – for insurance purposes\n\nBOOKING: \nEmail suzanne@scottish-orienteering.org for further information or use the Google form to register for the course. DESCRIPTION:An initial\, unassessed course for orienteers who are interested in getting involved in coaching.  This course will give you the basics and get you on the pathway to becoming a coach. Also useful for qualified coaches in need of a refresher. \nRun mostly online\, with a practical club supported element\, this course will be held over 4 sessions.  \n\nSessions 1\, 2 & 4 – 1.5 hrs online weekday evenings. Dates are  w/b 16th\, 23rd Sep & 7th Oct. Exact day will be decided  in consultation with learners to take other commitments into consideration.\nSession 3 – club based self-evaluated practical session.  Practical session by negotiation with club mentor.\n\nCOST: \n£50 per person (non-members £75) \nCOURSE CONTENT: \nDiscussion based learning around what to coach and how to coach orienteering; practical self and peer evaluated exercises. \nPRE-REQUISITES: \nCompetent orienteers at least at TD3 \nAge 16+ ( open to negotiation for exceptional candidates) \n You must be able to arrange a practical exercise with either a club coach or a local school/youth organisation within the time frame of the course\, ideally between online sessions 2 & 3 but anytime before session 4. DESCRIPTION:This one day in-person course\, combining theory and practical\, gives you the skills and knowledge required to be eligible to apply to be a Grade C controller subject to approval and relevant experience. \nAs well as attending the course\, the requirements for obtaining the Grace C controller licence are: \n\n\nHave organised a competition registered with British Orienteering within the previous 10 years.\nHave planned a minimum of 3 events\, with at least one at Level C\, and at least one within the previous 5 years.\nCompletion of mandatory British Orienteering Event Safety & Welfare Workshop.\nBe appointed to the Grade by their Regional Association.\n\nThese can all be completed after the course but a good level of competence at control placement is required for the course.\n\nThe day will run from 10am to 4pm and will be in the Aviemore area. \nThe cost of this course is covered by the SOA. \nPlease book through the Google form or contact Suzanne for more details.

DESCRIPTION:This series of workshops is for juniors who have no planning experience or have just started to do some planning and want to know more.  It will run across the following dates:\n\n\n\nFriday 12th January – Optional Condes/Purple Pen workshop\nMonday 15th January – Workshop 1\nMonday 22nd January – Workshop 2\nMonday 29th January – Optional TD3/4 workshop\n\nThe workshops will be held on Zoom and run from 7:30pm to 9pm; it is expected that delegates will attend both the workshops and that they will have access to either Condes or Purple Pen on their computer.  Tablets / phones are not suitable for this and you will need to have uploaded and tried out your course planning software before the first workshop. There will be a planning exercise to do between each workshop date. \n\n\nAn optional workshop on Friday 12th January is to ensure that learners are familiar with the basics of using either Condes or Purple Pen. DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Coaching Certificate in Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA (SCQF L7)\, the Lead Coach course builds on the Club Coach (Level 5) qualification developing the knowledge and skills to run a coaching programme and supervise other coaches.  This replaces the old Level 2 course. \nINTENDED FOR:\nCompetent orienteers with some coaching experience. \nUSUAL DURATION:\nThe Lead Coach course comprises some 80 hours study.  This includes approx. 10 hours home study alongside 6 online tutor led sessions; 1.5 days of face-to-face tuition and formative assessment; further home study\, written tasks & reflective practice supported by a mentor\, finishing with a final half-day observed and assessed session. Learners have up to 2 years from the start of tuition to complete the qualification. \nASSESSMENT:\nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST:\n£550 per person. DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Qualification in Coaching Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA (SCQF L5)\, this course blends theory and practical providing the knowledge and skills to run single sessions within a framework set up by a more experienced coach. \nINTENDED FOR: \nActive Foundation Level coaches interested in furthering their experience to gain a formal coaching qualification. \nUSUAL DURATION: \nRe-designed to be delivered mainly online over a 5 – 6 week period\, this course comprises four tutor led\, interactive sessions online (1 – 1.5 hrs each) and 1 full day in person practical which includes the assessment. Exact dates will be established between learners and tutors. \nThe first online session will be  w/b 20th Feb. All pre-course work will need to be completed prior to this date. \nThe pre-course work will be sent out in mid January giving the learner a good amount of time to complete the work. \nASSESSMENT: \nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST: \n£170 per person\, £200 non-members. Cost of courses is usually covered by clubs and coach education grants. \nCOURSE OUTLINE: \nThe focus of the Level 1\, Assistant Coach\, is the single session usually progressing a skill within the session. DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Qualification in Coaching Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA\, this course blends theory and practical providing the knowledge and skills to run single sessions within a framework set up by a more experienced coach. \nINTENDED FOR: \nFoundation level coaches interested in furthering their experience to gain a formal coaching qualification. \nUSUAL DURATION: \nRe-designed to be delivered mainly online\, this course comprises four tutor led\, interactive sessions online (1 – 1.5 hrs each) and 1 full day in person practical which includes the assessment. \nThe first online session will be 24 May 2022. All pre-course work will need to be completed prior to this date. \nThe pre-course work will be sent out in early May giving the learner a good amount of time to complete the work. \nASSESSMENT: \nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST: \n£150 per person\, £175 non-members.  Subsidy may be available from sportscotland; check your eligibility and apply via their website. \nCOURSE OUTLINE: \nThe focus of the Level 1\, Assistant Coach\, is the single session usually progressing a skill within the session.
