SUMMARY:Grade C Controllers Course - 17th October 2026
DESCRIPTION:A Grade C Controllers’ Course is being run on 17th October 2026\, one day\, 10 am – 4 pm at Kinnoull Hill\, Perth \n\nAs well as attending the course\, the requirements for obtaining the Grace C controller licence are: \n\n\nHave organised a competition registered with British Orienteering within the previous 10 years.\nHave planned a minimum of 3 events\, with at least one at Level C\, and at least one within the previous 5 years.\nCompletion of mandatory British Orienteering Event Safety & Welfare Workshop.\nBe appointed to the Grade by their Regional Association.\n\nThese can all be completed after the course but a good level of competence at control placement is required for the course.\n\n\n\nPlease register an interest by filing in the Google form – dates and exact location will be decided depending on requirements of participants.

SUMMARY:Lead Coach  -  Autumn 2026 (Blended learning)
DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Coaching Certificate in Orienteering fully accredited by Qualifications Scotland (Level 7)\, the Lead Coach course builds on the Club Coach (Level 5) qualification developing the knowledge and skills to run a coaching programme and supervise other coaches.  This replaces the old Level 2 course. \nINTENDED FOR:\nCompetent orienteers with some coaching experience. \nUSUAL DURATION:\nThe Lead Coach course comprises some 80 hours study.  This includes approx. 10 hours home study alongside 6 online tutor led sessions; 1.5 days of face-to-face tuition and formative assessment; further home study\, written tasks & reflective practice supported by a mentor\, finishing with a final half-day observed and assessed session. Learners have up to 2 years from the start of tuition to complete the qualification. \nASSESSMENT:\nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST:\n£550 per person. (£600 non-members) Subsidies  may be available. A Lead Coach can focus on a series of coaching sessions.  They understand about progressing skills from one session to the next\, using different areas and refinements to make each session useful to a range of participants. \nA Lead Coach might mentor someone working towards a Club Coach qualification. \nLead Coaches are qualified to coach on type C areas and can undertake a short workshop on “Coaching Safely in Remote Areas” to allow them to coach in areas which would otherwise require an old Level 3 qualification. \nPRE-REQUISITES:\n\nUKCC/SQCO Level 1 orienteering coach qualification or equivalent.\nCurrent member of British Orienteering\nRecent evidence of competence at TD5 usually in the form of competition result.\nPVG\, CPWS & First Aid certificate commensurate with areas to be coached in are also required for licensing.\n\nOTHER NOTES:\nQualification should normally be completed within 2 years \nMORE DETAIL & BOOKING:\nThe next course will be starting November 2026. SUMMARY:Junior Planners Workshops Nov 2026
DESCRIPTION:This series of workshops is for juniors who have no planning experience or have just started to do some planning and want to know more.  It will run across the following dates:\n\n\nMonday 2nd November – Optional Condes/Purple Pen workshop\nMonday 9th November – Workshop 1\nMonday 16th November – Workshop 2\nMonday 23rd November – Optional TD3/4 workshop\n\nThe workshops will be held on Zoom and run from 7:30pm to 9pm; it is expected that delegates will attend both workshops 1 and 2 and that they will have access to either Condes or Purple Pen on their computer.  Tablets / phones are not suitable for this and you will need to have uploaded and tried out your course planning software before the first workshop. There will be a planning exercise to do between each workshop date. \n\n\n\nAn optional workshop on Monday 2nd November is to ensure that learners are familiar with the basics of using either Condes or Purple Pen. It is strongly suggested that you attend this unless you are confident using course planning software. \n\nThe trainers will decide in conjunction with the learners whether to run the optional TD3/4 workshop and the date will be negotiable.\n\nCompletion of all 3 workshops\, including the accompanying homework\, followed by planning 3 courses in your club and submitting an experience log will earn you a Young Planners certificate and buff.\n\nPlease register using the Google form by Monday 20th October 2026 or email Judy with any queries.
