SUMMARY:SQCO Level 1 Coaching Course – (Blended learning)
DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Qualification in Coaching Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA\, this course blends theory and practical providing the knowledge and skills to run single sessions within a framework set up by a more experienced coach. \nINTENDED FOR: \nFoundation level coaches interested in furthering their experience to gain a formal coaching qualification. \nUSUAL DURATION: \nRe-designed to be delivered mainly online over a 6 week period\, this course comprises four tutor led\, interactive sessions online (1 – 1.5 hrs each) and 1 full day in person practical which includes the assessment. \nThe first online session will be  week beginning 24 Oct 2022. All pre-course work will need to be completed prior to this date. \nThe pre-course work will be sent out in early October giving the learner a good amount of time to complete the work. \nASSESSMENT: \nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST: \n£150 per person\, £175 non-members.  Subsidy may be available from sportscotland; check your eligibility and apply via their website. \nCOURSE OUTLINE: \nThe focus of the Level 1\, Assistant Coach\, is the single session usually progressing a skill within the session. Building on the basic skills covered in Coaching Foundation\, the course includes the theory of what and how to coach\, practical exercise planning and delivery including risk management and developing yourself as a coach. \nPRE-REQUISITES: \n\nAttendance at Coaching Foundation course\nAged 17 or over\nEvidence of competence at orienteering at TD4 or above\nCurrent member of British Orienteering – for insurance purposes\n\nBOOKING: \nEmail suzanne@scottish-orienteering.org for further information or go directly to the Google form link below to register for the course.

SUMMARY:Young Coach Assistant - Blended Learning - East Area 5th Nov 22
DESCRIPTION:A course designed for juniors\, combining theory and practical\, this is an introduction to aspects of coaching and is a toe on the coach education ladder. \nIntended for: \nJuniors who are interested in helping with club coaching or assisting a teacher with a school club. \nCourse duration: \nAn online evening session (1.5 hours) covering the basics of ‘how to coach’ followed by a full practical day (6 hours) with one of our qualified coach tutors learning to make orienteering fun for other youngsters.  There is no assessment. \nCost: \nFree but you will be required to commit to a period of volunteering. \nPrerequisites: \nCompetent orienteers TD3+; age 14+ (may be negotiable in certain circumstances) \nOther Information: \nThis course may be used instead of Coaching Foundation as a prerequisite for SQCO Level 1 .  Hours spent training can be used towards Saltire Awards and may be used towards D of E Awards. \nBook online through the Google Form link below  by 17th October or contact suzanne@scottish-orienteering with any questions
