SUMMARY:SQCO Level 1 Coaching Course – (Blended learning)
DESCRIPTION:A Scottish Qualification in Coaching Orienteering fully accredited by the SQA\, this course blends theory and practical providing the knowledge and skills to run single sessions within a framework set up by a more experienced coach. \nINTENDED FOR: \nFoundation level coaches interested in furthering their experience to gain a formal coaching qualification. \nUSUAL DURATION: \nRe-designed to be delivered mainly online\, this course comprises four tutor led\, interactive sessions online (1 – 1.5 hrs each) and 1 full day in person practical which includes the assessment. \nThe first online session will be 1 March 2022. All pre-course work will need to be completed prior to this date. \nThe pre-course work will be sent out in early February giving the learner a good amount of time to complete the work. \nASSESSMENT: \nWritten tasks and observation of practical coaching session by qualified assessor. \nCOST: \n£150 per person\, £175 non-members.  Subsidy may be available from sportscotland; check your eligibility and apply via their website. \nCOURSE OUTLINE: \nThe focus of the Level 1\, Assistant Coach\, is the single session usually progressing a skill within the session. Building on the basic skills covered in Coaching Foundation\, the course includes the theory of what and how to coach\, practical exercise planning and delivery including risk management and developing yourself as a coach. \nPRE-REQUISITES: \n\nAttendance at Coaching Foundation course\nAged 17 or over\nEvidence of competence at orienteering at TD4 or above\nCurrent member of British Orienteering – for insurance purposes\n\nBOOKING: \nEmail suzanne@scottish-orienteering.org for further information or go directly to the Google form link below to register for the course.  Applications close 6 Feb 22 \n

SUMMARY:Coaching Foundation – Blended learning ( Additional course)
DESCRIPTION:An initial course for orienteers who are interested in coaching.  This course will give you the foundations and get you on the pathway to becoming a coach.  This delivery was scheduled for ELO but there are spaces for additional learners.  You would need to arrange you own practical session but would receive support from your tutors/club to do so. \nRun mostly online\, with a practical club supported element\, this course will be held over 4 sessions. Sessions 1\,2 & 4 online 1.5 hrs\,  session 3  club based practical session. Dates for the 3 online sessions are 21 Mar\, 28th Mar\, 25 Apr.  Practical session by negotiation with club mentor. \nThis is a pre-requisite for the Level 1 coaching course. \nINTENDED FOR:\nPeople with knowledge of orienteering\, who are interested in trying their hand at coaching; also useful for qualified coaches in need of a refresher. \nUSUAL DURATION:\nA series of online sessions plus practical club based home learning over one month period  – total 6 hours contact time. \nASSESSMENT:\nNot assessed \nCOST:\n£50 per person (non-members £75) \nMIN/MAX.\n6/8 \nMAIN TOPICS:\nDiscussion around how to teach/coach orienteering\, practical exercises. \nPRE-REQUISITES:\nCompetent orienteers at least at TD3; age 16+ \nOTHER NOTES:\nThis course is a pre-requisite for the Level 1 Coach course; you might apply to go straight to Level 2 after this course. \nMORE DETAIL:\nBook online through the Google form  or contact Suzanne Robins-Bird with any questions
