The selected WOC team and their families are trying to raise enough funds to cover the shortfall left by external funding cuts. Several athletes who are Scots or based in Scotland are affected. About 60% of funds needed has already been raised on their online donations page.

Sarah Brown, the mother of Ralph Street who is a member of the team, says the following in a letter:

I am launching a short campaign to help the GB Team get to World Championships in Estonia in July.

There is a shortfall of about £6000 which the athletes are now trying to raise themselves. This shortfall is due to a severe reduction in external funding for the entire Senior Performance and Development Programme.

Athletes in orienteering are used to having to make some contributions to represent their country  but sadly the shortfall for these youngsters comes on top of having to fund themselves entirely for the selection season where they were asked to attend the JK, the Test/Selection races in Estonia, and then get to World Cup races in Helsinki to try and get important ranking points for a good start at the World Championships.
The GB Team has set up a 'my donate' page which is being managed by the Orienteering Foundation who have kindly agreed to collect the money on their behalf. Money donated attracts gift aid, where applicable, can be anonymous, and in addition it will be accounted for in end of year accounts so donors can get good feedback.

Read the full letter for more background information, and please donate and share if you can.

Thank you.
