This weekend sees the revival of the Scottish Students Orienteering Championships based in Edinburgh.
More than 40 students from 7 different Scottish Universities are descending on Edinburgh this weekend to take part in the Scottish Students Orienteering Championships. Organised by EUOC in conjunction with ESOC, competitors will race in the individual race on Saturday and an inter-departmental relay on the Sunday. Edinburgh, Heriot Watt, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Dundee, Aberdeen and Robert Gordon's will all be represented in the first weekend of its kind in many years. Saturday's individual around the streets and parks near Craiglockhart is also the culmination of both the Nopesport Urban League and the Scottish Urban League, so expect some fast and furious racing!! Although Edinburgh look to dominate in terms of numbers, there are some strong athletes from other universities taking part.
After a curry and party on Saturday evening, Sunday's event will be more of a fun, social event. Blackford Hill will host the relay championships, with the aim of mixing athletes from different universities together, hopefully in departmental teams. Former Edinburgh Uni student, Alasdair McLeod will be planning the 3km hilly course, which will provide some exciting head-to-head racing.
Thanks to ESOC, EUOC and Scottish Student Sport for pulling this event together! Good luck to all!
