Overall mapping comment
You would think that a trailO event, even a world championship, would not demand too much mapping effort, with essentially only one course per day. Oh no! What with timed controls and solution maps, it all builds up. In all, the WTOC 2012 and the TempO World Trophy together required 47 maps to go to print in .pdf format exported from .ocd files. As the mapping and planning proceeded there was a huge number of corrections in converting the generalised 1:10000 map to a precision 1:5000 map around the control sites. To keep this process under control, each time a current map was corrected it was date labelled and archived. For obvious security all files were saved on both internal and external hard drives. Junk files were ditched. At the end of the mapping I was astonished to find a total number of 615 files in the WTOC 2012 folder! It did indeed build up.

Pre-event info
Welcome to Scotland and to WTOC2012. The forested sand dunes of Tentsmuir will provide a very high level of technical challenge for TrailO and can easily accommodate two days of elite competition in contrasting terrain. The courses will be testing and the winners will be worthy World Champions.
Tentsmuir lies in the ancient Scottish Kingdom of Fife, home to Scotland's capital for six centuries, with a wealth of places of historic interest. Close to Tentsmuir is the Royal Burgh of St Andrews, home of golf and of Scotland’s oldest university, whilst the event centre and accommodation will be across the River Tay in the City of Discovery, Dundee.
All this and a warm Scottish welcome will ensure a fitting stage for a memorable World Trail Orienteering Championships.
There will be a full programme of public events mirroring the WTOC competition – giving the opportunity to test skills against the world’s best. Combined with the Scottish Championships Jubilee 5 and other local footO events in the area, this gives a full nine days of orienteering including classic footO, relay, sprintO, middle distance, MTBO, tempO and trailO.
