Paul McGreal has been appointed as the Event Director for the 2015 World Orienteering Championships to be hosted in Scotland.
Paul may be better known in triathlon circles due to a number of recent awards for his off-road triathlon events like the Celtman and Craggy Island, but he has been an orienteer for over 25 years, and is currently a member of Roxburgh Reivers.

We now have just FIVE places left on the SOA’s Activity Weekend for Volunteers, to be run at Glenmore Lodge from the evening of Friday 27th September to late afternoon on Sunday 29th.  The purpose of this weekend is to reward volunteers for their hard work in support of our sport and to provide an opportunity to develop further in a sociable atmosphere.  If you’d like to come but haven’t booked, please BOOK NOW!

With the arrival of the warmer months, long nights and the sun even making an appearance or two, now is a good time to brush up on your knowledge of ticks. What do they look like, how to remove them and how to reduce your chances of being bitten.

The future of SCORE will be discussed at the next SOA board meeting on Sat 29 June. We are still looking for an editor for SCORE and whether or not we can find one may have an influence over the magazine’s future. Updated info 9th Jun

Good results in the JK, British Championships and other selection races has meant that a large number of Scottish juniors have been successful in their attempt to gain selection for the various summer camps.

The SOA AGM held on Sat 25 May was not quorate. Directors presented their reports but the meeting was unable to approve previous minutes or make elections to the Board.  Minutes of the meeting are available and can be approved at the next quorate meeting.
Three weeks’ notice is hereby given that the AGM will be reconvened at 1500 hrs on Saturday 29th June at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth following the next SOA Board meeting. SOA members are encouraged to attend, and the numbers present will constitute the quorum.

Anne Hickling (GRAMP) was awarded the President’s medal by SOA President Roger Scrutton at the AGM on Saturday 25 May, following a fantastic day’s orienteering in beautiful sunny weather at the Scottish Orienteering Championships at Loch Doon, Ayrshire.

Caroline Smillie died in Stirling Community hospital on Thursday 2nd May 2013 aged 81 years. Caroline had suffered a series of strokes since last Christmas. Caroline was one of the early stalwarts of FVO and continued as a key club member for more than 30 years.

Early entry helps organisers considerably, there are many things that are dependent on the number of people entered. The sooner they know the numbers, the less waste or shortfall on resources.
