Scottish Squad in Royal Deeside

The Scottish Elite Development Squad got stuck into some top quality training this weekend in the forests and hills of Royal Deeside. Having gathered in December to plan out the 2009 season this was the first in a series of training and racing camps that are intended to help Scottish orienteers target representation in Great Britain teams and to defend their Senior Home International title in the Autumn.

The training sessions were positively buzzing with thirty-four orienteers using three of Royal Deeside’s finest orienteering forests. Coach Jon Musgrave planned sessions on the first day in Sluie and Dess forests to develop the basic techniques of maintaining map contact and contour interpretation. On the programme for the second day was a longer hill run which led into a high quality orienteering session in the forested moraine of Inchmarnoch at the MAROC local event.
