The programme planned for 2009 is as follows.

Part 1 - Pre/early season basic technical training.

The aim of this part of the programme is to get technique in hand / improve anything that needs attention before the important domestic races begin 17/18th Jan - Deeside. 14/15th Feb - Lake District. 14/15th March - Speyside this can be extended into the following week training with the British Squad, with the Moray weekend (Culbin long race) to follow on.

Part 2 - Race preparation

Pre WOC selection races - Borders - The purpose here is to tune up fast and confident orienteering ahead of a big peak race - WOC selection

Pre SHI - Alongside September SOL to tune up and get the team going ahead of defending our SHI title (successfully I might add)

Part 3 - International race experience

20th June - Jukola / Venla. An opportunity to gain big relay experience, the pressure the atmosphere, get out of your comfort zone in the biggest relay race and experience there is.

I see Jukola / Venla as a fantastic opportunity to build experience and confidence and to measure progress through year on year improvement. This is how the Swiss national team began an 8 year dominance of the WOC relays, by putting teams into Tio and Jukola. SEDS aim is to run one Venla team and one Jukola team with selection based on the JK
I plan for the team to spend a few days in Finland preparing for the race.

3/4 October SHI - Northern Ireland. Craic, Team spirit and of course Victory.

Additionally

SEDS team accommodation and transport for the WOC selection races will be arranged. Note that this will not be supported from the SEDS budget but is a piece of co-ordination to keep costs down and team spirit up.

As with last year Personal training grants will be available to members of the Performance group.

This is a great programme arrived at from the December performance weekend. My thanks in advance to all those named above who will be organising it for everyone else and to Colin and Lorna Eases who will be co-ordinating communications and transport arrangements
