Scott Fraser - Podium finish at WOC

Scotland’s Scott Fraser finishes 6th in the World Orienteering Championships long distance final.

After disappointment in the sprint race Scott ran the best race of his career so far to finish 6th, a podium position, in yesterdays long distance. Historically this is the best ever result for the GB team in the long distance pipping Jamie Stevenson’s 8th position in WOC 2004.

From the BOF website Scott had this to say:

I gave it everything. I had some problems understanding the map at the start, apart from that I worked really hard. I ran with Nordberg a lot but kept in full contact with the map and when he missed a couple of times I knew where to find the controls.

I never dreamed of getting the 6th place but I am over the moon, this is what I have been training for.

WOC continues tomorrow with the middle distance final that will see Matthew Speake (Interlopers) battling it out for a top position.

For all his fans, Scott Fraser will be back in action on Sunday running alongside Graham Gristwood and Jon Duncan (ex- GRAMP and EUOC member) in the relays.
