Scotland Win the 2009 JIRCs
After 10 years of coming runners-up in this competition, the Scottish team have won the 2009 Junior Inter-Regional Championships which were held in Northern Ireland at the weekend. North-West were second and Yorkshire third.
Twelve teams and a total of 230 juniors competed. Scotland last won the JIRCs trophy in 1991.
Saturday’s Individual race was held on Slievenagore in the Mourne Mountains in hot, sunny weather. Scotland won the trophy with 4 podium places - Evelyn Mason 2nd in W14, 12-year-old Sasha Chepelin 3rd in M14, Rozy Shepherd 3rd in W16 and Lauren Campbell 3rd in W18. There are 2 to count for each Region in each age class and with lots of other excellent results Scotland beat Yorkshire by 243 points to 224, with North-West 3rd in 214.
Scotland were runners-up to North-West in the Relays, but their strength in depth and lead in the Individual were enough to ensure overall victory. A great team effort.
1st SOA 462
2nd NWOA 445
3rd YHOA 425
Scotland also won both the Men’s and Women’s trophies.
A brilliant result! Well done to the whole Scottish team.
