If you plan to orienteer in France you will need to provide a certificate, stamped & signed by a doctor to confirm that you are fit to compete.

Dear Friend,

The French legislation requires that the organizers of any sport event, taking place on the French territory, make sure that all French or foreigner participants hold a sports license or a medical certificate.

The law n° 99-223, relating to the sportsmen health protection and anti-doping fight, was voted, by the National Assembly on 1999 March 23.

Therefore all french and foreign runners have now to prove their ability to a competitive practice of orienteering, by a medical certificate delivered by a doctor after a medical examination.

According to the current French rules, the participants will only be accepted if they are able to justify of a medical certificate of no counter-indication to a competitive practice of orienteering – Article L 231-3 of the sport’s code.

This document, or its copy, will be retained by the organizer, as a relevant document in case of accident. No other document will be agreed to attest of the presentation of a medical certificate.

In order not to ask systematically for this medical certificate, I would be grateful that you let me know if :

- your federation delivers annual licenses for competitive orienteering practice.

- the delivering of this license is dependent on the presentation of a medical certificate of no counter- indication to a competitive practice of orienteering.

In case your federation would not deliver a license with the requirement of such a medical certificate, your runners will have to present a medical certificate to participate to an event in France.
