The Jamie Stevenson Trophy is an annual inter-club competition for Junior orienteers in Scotland. This year the competition will took place at Deuchney Wood, Perth, on Sunday 15th June. This is a great event for juniors of all abilities to meet, socialise and compete against each other. This year approximately 144 juniors from 12 clubs took part.

The competition is open to juniors (M/W20 and under) and courses offered include Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Green.

Organiser’s Comments

If you go down to the woods today ……   Was it a Teddy Bear’s Picnic or was it the Jamie Stevenson Trophy at Duechny Woods? With lots of cuddly toys and friendly competition the annual junior battle of the clubs took place with 12 of Scotland’s clubs taking place. It was wonderful to see so many clubs taking place with teams of all different sizes (from 2 to 27!)

When Maureen first asked me to organise this event, she assured me that the sun always shines for the Jamie Stevenson, however that was not to be the case today. In a fairly constant drizzle, people set off for the expedition to the start. For some this was to be a taste of what was to come on their courses. With some complex courses there were a few mistakes and a few surprise results.

Individual prizes were shared around 9 of the 12 clubs. As ever, the run-in challenge provided some serious competition with 5 competitors tying in 1st place. With 1 teddy as the prize and a desire not to cut him up, Andrew Lindsay settled the debate by “bear-napping”!

There was to be no surprise in the trophy result with MAROC taking the trophy home yet again. However, there was some very fierce competition from ECKO in 2nd place with ESOC in 3rd and FVO in 4th.  (Although, ECKO wins the prize for the loudest support!)

Also out in the woods today was Chris Spencer from ActivNorth Photography and pictures from the event will be available from his website www.activnorth.com

As we packed up and left the field, the sun finally came out …...

Congratulations to all the winners, well done to all the competitors and team captains, thanks to all who came to support and finally a huge thank you to all who helped today.
