Jamie Stevenson Trophy 2012
JAMIE STEVENSON TROPHY SHOCK RESULT !!
..would have been the headline had the mighty MAROC not just managed to edge out rivals ECKO and FVO by a mere 5 points in a hotly contested Jamie Stevenson Trophy on Sunday. The inter-club competition was held at Kinnoull Hill by Perth and saw a record entry of 172 juniors from across Scotland.
The day began with the traditional parade. The juniors lined up with club banners aloft and, in recognition of the Jubilee year, marched to the sound of Queen - 'We Are The Champions'. The event was enlivened by the presence of several spooked horses (not Queen fans) and low overhead power-lines. With tall juniors (is that Craig Nolan still growing??), high banners and low cables we could have had fireworks!...maybe next year. Good job I had a risk assessment form to hand...the mitigation of course is not to leave it to your mischievous son (Matthew) to pick the route.
Five courses had been expertly planned by Ross McLennan and Fiona Berrow of FVO and controlled by Maureen Brown. They were a great navigational test and runners looked suitably, happily exhausted at the end. A well placed spectator control by the assembly area added to the excitement.
While competitors enjoyed a BBQ (remarkably the rain stayed away), Robin Strain weaved his magic. Leveraging processing power way in excess of that which put man on the moon, Robin computed the results using algorithms far too complex for us mortals to understand. As it was Father's Day, Bill Stevenson (dad of Jamie) was there to present the prizes. He had brought four of Jamie's world champion medals for the juniors to admire. They were impressively heavy (..the medals, not the juniors). Generous prizes were donated by Buffera and Tiso (many thanks to both for their support), and the winning team received the traditional tub of sweets.
Congratulations to the winners:
Trophy Winners - MAROC
and Individual winners:
Yellow - Pippa Carcas (INT), Peter Molloy (FVO)
Orange - Grace Molloy (FVO), Jake Chapman (MAROC)
Light Green - Clare Stansfield (FVO), Callum Hunter (ECKO)
Green - Frances Wright (MAROC), Daniel Stansfield (FVO)
…and to all the competitors. And a huge thanks to all the helpers on the day.
I got home on Sunday evening and the boys presented me with my Father's Day card - a chimpanzee wearing a mankini. I didn't take it personally. If you don't know what a mankini is, I suggest we keep it that way.
