Head of Performance Orienteering appointed
GB WOC 2013 team member and recent University of Edinburgh graduate, Mark Nixon, has been appointed to the position of Head of Performance Orienteering at the Edinburgh University’s Centre of Excellence for Orienteering.
Mark will work with athletes funded under the Winning Students scheme Student athletes benefit from a support package which includes technical and physical coaching, physiotherapy, travel expenses and accommodation. It is anticipated 11 orienteers will receive Winning Students scholarships in 2013/2014, with similar numbers in subsequent years.
On his appointment Mark said, "I am absolutely delighted to be awarded this position. I have built up a wealth of experience, both as a student-athlete here at the university and as an international athlete for Great Britain. I hope to be able to share my knowledge with the talented athletes coming through the system and ensure that the Winning Students programme here at the University of Edinburgh continues to produce international athletes."
