All orienteers have a personal responsibility to check any medication against the prohibited substance list and if necessary apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption certificate (TUE). You should all be aware that there are prescription drugs on the list so all medication should be checked.

The first thing to do is look to see if the medication, at the dosage you take, is on the prohibited substances list: list.wada-ama.org

If it is then you need a TUE for any BOF event www.britishorienteering.org.uk/anti_doping; this would also cover you in a World Ranking Event that is not JWOC, WOC, World Cup. Application is via British Orienteering.

For athletes in the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) Registered Testing Pool and anyone competing in JWOC, WOC, World Cup the athlete applies via IOF. More info at orienteering.org/anti-doping

General Information

All athletes have the right to compete in sport knowing that they, and their competitors, are clean. The Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) believes in 'clean orienteering' and works in partnership with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and International Federation to ensure that the integrity of orienteering is protected.

The use of performance-enhancing drugs and other doping behaviour severely damages the legitimacy of sport and undermines the integrity of clean athletes.

Anti-Doping Rules

The SOA has in place a set of anti-doping rules that all athletes, coaches and athlete support personnel must abide by. The anti-doping rules for the SOA are consistent with the World Anti-Doping Code (2015 Code), which governs anti-doping internationally.

You can find the UK Anti-Doping Rules here.

The anti-doping rules of the SOA are the UK Anti-Doping Rules published by UK Anti-Doping (or its successor), as amended from time to time. Such rules shall take effect and be construed as the rules of the SOA.

If you are a member of the SOA then the anti-doping rules apply to you, regardless of what level you participate at.

You can download the SOA anti-doping policy as a PDF.
