Scottish Orienteering are delighted to announce that the current World Orienteering Champion, Daniel Hubmann (Switzerland) will compete in Perth, in September, along with Fabian Hertner (Sprint Silver in the 2009 World Orienteering Champs) and Brit, Graham Gristwood (World Champion in the relay, 2008).

Saturday 11th September

Morning, Day 2: Re-run of Friday ‘Day 1’ event.  This is being made available for those who wish to run the courses from the day before but who could not make it to the event.  We don’t want people to miss out on a run at the fantastic Scone Palace because of weekday commitments.  Please note running this race will make you ineligible to qualify for the elite final of the main race (‘Day 3’)
Starts from 10:00 – 12:00
Afternoon, ‘Day 3’: sprint race and Park World Tour International (Saturday 11th September). Afternoon: Qualified elites (30 men, 30 women) will run first, with others running afterwards.
Starts from 14:00 – 18:00

PWT Sprint Qualification and open races in Scone Palace - mixture of parkland and fast forest. 
This will be the qualifying race for the Park World Tour International on the Saturday.  You MUST enter this if you wish to try and qualify for the final.
The M/W winning time will be approximately 14/15 minutes.

With a twist of Lyme

I’m sure we’ve all had experience of the wee sleekit beastie; but unlike Rabbie Burns, I mean the vampiristic tick! My concern is that too often we do not give them the respect they are due. Many of the ticks in the UK carry a bacteria (Borrelia Burgdorferi Sensu Lato) which if transmitted through a bite, can result in Lyme Disease. Fahrer H et al. wrote,  in the Scientific Journal of Orienteering in 1993, that in Switzerland more than 40% of Orienteers had positive blood tests for this bacteria. The tests are now far more sensitive so perhaps this research should be repeated! Lyme Disease (LD), if left untreated, can lead to some very grave health problems.
