SEDS Selections Update
After the selection races at Touch and the Trossachs, the JK and British Middle and Sprint Championships a number of SEDS and other Scottish based athletes are celebrating selection for a variety of British teams this summer.
After impressive wins in the Scottish races Scott Fraser will be off to Bulgaria at the end of May for the European Championships, while Oleg Chepelin, Murray Strain, Doug Tullie and Hollie Orr are part of a development group picked to take part in the Nordic O Tour – a set of World Cup races traversing Scandinavia in June. Oleg has since dropped out of the team but will be replaced by another SEDS member, Duncan Coombs, and they will be joined by Edinburgh University student Cat Taylor.
The Edinburgh domination at the British University championships is reflected in a strong presence in the team for Augusts World University Champs, to be held in Borlange, Sweden. Scott, Oleg, Doug and Hollie will be joined by Alasdair McLeod, Jess Halliday and Rebecca Harding to give EUOC an unprecedented seven athletes out of the ten picked.
Before the World Universities Alasdair and Rebecca will be part of strong teams for the Junior World Championships. They will be joined in Denmark in July by Jamie Stevenson and Hazel Wright.
Many of these athletes benefitted from racing in the European Youth Championships before moving up to more senior competition. This year Kirstin Maxwell, Joanna Shepherd and Rona Lindsay will get a taste of international competition at this set of races which take place in Spain in early July.
With so many athletes picked for the various opportunities available this summer, hopes will be high going into the World Champs Selection Races, to be held in Glasgow and Erskine from May 14-16th.
