Scottish Junior Successes at EYOC 2013

The Scottish team members were very successful in what for most was their debut GB International.
In particular, the M16 Relay team of Andrew Barr, Callum White and Daniel Stansfield achieved a podium place in 6th position

As reported previously, 6 members of the Scottish Junior Squad were selected to represent Great Britain at the European Youth Orienteering Championships which were held in Portugal’s Lisbon Region over the weekend of 25-27 October. Around 100 athletes from 26 nations took part in each age class.

The Scottish team members were very successful in what for most was their debut GB International.
In particular, the M16 Relay team of Andrew Barr, Callum White and Daniel Stansfield achieved a podium place in 6th position.  This is particularly pleasing as it is effectively a Scottish success on the European stage, and it is probably unprecedented for all the members of a junior relay team at an International competition to come from the same Regional Squad.
Sasha Chepelin “ran up” in the M18 Relay and brought his team back in 4th position after the first leg.
Rhona McMillan ran the anchor leg in the W18 Relay and brought her team back in 13th place.

In the Individual races, there were 4 top-20 positions: Sasha was 12th in the M16 Sprint final; in the Long Distance, Sasha was 11th in and Daniel was 17th, and Jennifer Ricketts was 14th in the W16 class.

These athletes are all members of the British Orienteering Talent Squad and have been running together and encouraging each other for several years as members of ScotJOS.  We would like to wish them all the best in their future International careers.
