Regular Orienteering Map Programme

Controls are now out in Craigellachie, a wonderful National Nature Reserve beside Aviemore, with fantastic contour detail, rock features, views and (of course) wildlife.
Meanwhile some oft-neglected corners of Uath Lochan invite you to visit them for more ROMPing fun.  Important safety note re. Uath Lochan - see below.

Craigellachie is a National Nature Reserve offering intricate contours on the upper, open parts and delightful birch forest on the lower slopes (though controls are placed to reduce your battle with man-eating bracken) - and of course lots of lovely wildlife (not all of it blood-sucking).  There are a few paths but most of the area is quite rough underfoot.  Controls will be out until the end of October.

Uath Lochan has so much variety and challenge, just when you’re starting to become complacent, it plays tricks on you.  Come and explore some of the less frequently used parts, and enjoy great views too.  Important safety note:  the Strathspey & Badenoch Herald (the “Strathy”) recently carried a report of a “big cat” (possibly a panther) having been sighted nearby.  Please report any possible sightings, and do avoid annoying it!  General opinion is they like to eat deer.

Map packs are available from Glenmore Lodge reception or you can arrange to collect them from Insh.  Alternatively, we can post one out to you, simply contact the National O Centre.
Packs are £3 each.  Please add 70p towards postage for one pack, £1.20 for 2-5 packs, £1.70 for 6-10 packs.

You can also join our subscription scheme - just send a cheque for £37 (inc. postage) and we’ll send you the next 10 ROMP packs.
