Funding for UKCC Level 1 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact the National Orienteering Centre (via Contacts page) if your question is not answered here.

  1. Can I transfer my funding to a different course?

sportScotland subsidy can usually be transferred to another course if you need to do this.  However, it cannot be transferred to a different person or a different sport.

  2. Where are courses held?

Courses are normally held at Glenmore Lodge and are priced on that basis (£375).

  3. How long does the course last?

Courses last 3 days and candidates must attend all 3 days;  the cost includes accommodation for 3 nights (ie. from the evening before the course starts), and 2 evening meals (ie. excluding the evening of arrival).

  4. What other funding is available from SOA?

SOA funding (eg. development funding) might be available for projects that include UKCC L1 coach education.  It will normally only be offered to candidates who qualify for the sportScotland subsidy.

  5. What’s PVG?  Do I need a disclosure?

PVG Scheme (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) was implemented in 2011 to replace the system of disclosures for people regularly doing “regulated work”.  Although not all coaches will require scheme membership, sportScotland require it (or an earlier disclosure) for anyone seeking funding for their coach training.  If you don’t have a recent disclosure, please allow at least 3 weeks for your PVG Scheme application to be processed.

  6. What am I going to put on the form about committing to the required amount of coaching?

sportScotland need to know that their investment in your training will be used to the benefit of orienteering.  You will be given help and guidance on what to put on the form when the form is sent to you.
