This page is intended to provide coaches with a single point of access to a variety of information, templates and resources for different aspects of their coaching activity. Updated 13 May with link to useful items about nutrition and the Jamaican junior athletics setup, 5 April to provide link to British Orienteering guidance on use by coaches of social media, 6 January 2017 to provide new CPD template to be used from 2017 onwards, and 11 January to add article about psychological characteristics and talent in young orienteers.
Generous subsidies are available from sportscotland for UKCC coach education courses, to members of SOA clubs. Applications must now be made online.
This course was designed specifically for experienced orienteers who want to dip their toes into the waters of coaching, and as a stepping stone towards the UKCC qualifications. The course fee is £60 for members of clubs affiliated to SOA, £100 for non-members.

We are pleased to announce dates for Coach CPD in 2015. Venues will be allocated in discussion with clubs; please get in touch if you’d like to request a particular date in your area. The general theme for the sessions will be “Lively sessions for newcomers and returners”.
The Condes User Guide has been updated for use with version 9 of the Condes software, which offers several improvements in both functionality and interface. Of particular interest to coaches and anyone planning unconventional events is the ability to do things to the underlying map - see section 17 of the User Guide.
We are pleased to announce more detail of the Coach CPD days for 2014. Dates and venues are now available for the series of highly practical coaches’ workshops across the country, which will allow us to produce sets of valuable resources for all coaches. Agenda for the last date - 7th December - is now available.

Nearly 90 SOA members descended on Glenmore Lodge and enjoyed a variety of physical activities and learning opportunities, in magnificent surroundings and pleasant sunshine. Many, many thanks to all who contributed their time, effort and expertise. Results, handouts and feedback will be posted here as they become available - handouts from Lynne Walker’s “Mental” session and the Organiser’s Workshop now added, with apologies for delay.
