The Scottish Individual Championships is the climax of the spring season. Its purpose is to determine classic distance Scottish Champions in each age class
The SOC will be hosted by each of the three Areas within Scotland : East > North > West in rotation. Each Area Committee will invite offers from their own Clubs to host this Championship, along with the Scottish Relay Championships.
The SOC will normally take place on the last Saturday in May.
The event should be a BOF-sanction National Event, and follow BOF rules for such competitions. Elite courses for M21E and W21E shall be provided. The event may also seek UK cup and World Ranking Event status.
The area to be used shall be approved by the Competitions Convenor and thereafter the event should be registered with the Fixtures Secretary. The main criterion is the availability of sufficient terrain at the highest level of technical difficulty, although it must also be possible to plan appropriate junior courses..
Guidelines
Planning guidelines are as for BOF National events, following the additional guidelines for UK cup and World Ranking Event where appropriate.
Trophies shall be available to the first Scot in each age group. For this purpose members of Scottish open Clubs shall be automatically recognised as “Scots”. Other orienteers wishing to be classed as “Scottish”, such as those born in Scotland or long-term Scottish residents currently living outside Scotland or competing for their university, must make their status known to the organiser before the race
“Scots” are any one of the following
a] born in Scotland
b] have at least one Scottish parent
c] be a member of the Scottish Orienteering Association
Note the M21E, W21E and relay trophies are still for all comers.
For the M and W Elite classes there will be three trophies – Winner, Scottish Native Champion and best Scottish Orienteering Association Member. Scottish Native Champions must have been born in Scotland and not just member of a Scottish club.
