Capercaillie SOA/RSPB Agreement
This document has been agreed by the SOA Executive and the RSPB and is now working, although it has not yet been formally signed.
However when approaching a land owner for orienteering in one of the core capercaillie areas, Aberdeenshire/ Deeside, Strathspey, Moray and Perthshire the local contacts now have a greater knowledge of the exact location of the birds and their advice should be sought and the SOA Access Officer, Donald Petrie, or the RSPB Officer, Kenny Kortland, advised accordingly. In the event of their not being any local advice available please follow the procedures in the agreement. I’ve been asked by the RSPB not to publicise the areas where the birds live as they are having problems with bird watchers entering these areas and disturbing them, so the list of areas has been taken off the revised agreement. Updated Nov06.
